On the Formation of Nonlinear Localized States in Lattices

报告摘要:

The study of Localized solutions has been a classic topic in nonlinear science, which for instance encourages the advance of the theories for solitary waves. On the other hand,  recent developments in topological materials (such as topological insulators) provide a large number of examples and applications for linear localized states (e.g., edge states). In this talk, we will give an introduction to linear and nonlinear localized states in lattices, with emphasis on attention-attracting edge states. Among other open questions on nonlinear lattices, we will present some new results on the finite-size effects and use a simple diatomic chain model to show how these are relevant to a typical formation mechanism for nonlinear localized states. Here we introduce the Large-Lattice limit to provide a framework for conducting asymptotic analysis in finite-size lattices, which is expected to be extended in a wider range of lattice systems.

主讲人简介:

徐海涛,华中科技大学数学中心副研究员。2011年本科毕业于中国科学技术大学少年班学院,2016年于美国马萨诸塞州大学阿姆赫斯特分校获得博士学位,后在明尼苏达大学数学及应用研究所从事博士后研究,之后在华中科技大学数学中心工作至今。报告人研究领域包括非线性波、格点系统、哈密顿系统、解的存在性和稳定性理论以及与其他学科如非线性光学、材料工程等的交叉应用,一些结果发表于Phil. Trans. Roy. Soc. A, Phys. Rev. B, Phys. Rev. E, Physica D等期刊上。
