In this talk, we shall give a brief review on the progress of some principal eigenvalue problems of a linear second order elliptic or time-periodic operator, which mainly focuses on the asymptotic behavior of the principal eigenvalue with respect to some parameters such as the diffusion rate, large advection, etc. We are particularly interested in the effect of boundary conditions and spatial/temporal degeneracies on the behavior of the principal eigenvalue.
