The free boundary value problem for primitive equations is considered in present paper, which can be used to simulate the large scale motion of ocean and atmosphere, on vertical bounded domain with non-slip boundary condition at the bottom and the free motion of upper surface. The global existence and uniqueness of strong solution is established, and the long time convergence to the equilibrium state is showed either at exponential rate for horizontal periodic domain or at algebraic rate for horizontal whole space.
