We introduce the notion of a localization triple in additive categories with endofunctors and develop the corresponding homotopy theory. Applications include the a realization of the Verdier quotient of an arbitrary triangulated category as a triangulated subfactor which covers a theorem of Buchweitz on the singularity category of a Gorenstein ring.
